Movado - Achille Ditesheim was all of 19 years old when he founded Movado in 1881, in the village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The young entrepreneur’s dream for Movado watches was to cultivate a brand that was bold, timeless, and inspired. As the years passed, and Movado’s expertise in time technology grew, the company saw the birth of its first big milestone: the 1912 Polyplan Movado watch. One of the most famous of all Movado watches, the 1912 Polyplan featured a revolutionary, patented movement built on three planes in order to fit a curved, ergonomic case. What followed was a series of Movado men’s watches and Movado women’s watches that would make the brand a household name, including the WWI Soldier’s Watch, the 1927 Ermeto, and the 1950’s Kingmatic series of Movado watches. It’s a legacy that lives up to the meaning of the brand’s name: “always in motion.”

The Movado Sapphire is a futuristic interpretation of the Museum watch protected by a flat, dark metalized sapphire crystal. Available with a solid stainless steel case and bracelet or with a black PVD-finish case on a black leather strap, the Movado sapphire sports the iconic black Museum dial. Defined by a single dot at 12 representing the sun at high noon, the museum dial is regarded as an icon of Modernism. It was designed by Bauhaus-influenced artist Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. When Horwitt's dial was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1960, it was the first watch dial ever awarded this distinction. The name "Museum Watch" derives from this recognition. The Movado Sapphire is driven by precision Swiss-quartz movement and is water resistant to 30m
