Hublot Watches began in 1980 under the direction of Carlo Crocco with the idea of creating luxury high end watches with a distinctly futuristic vision. He is a scion of the famed Italian Binda Group family, well known for producing Breil watches among other specialized watch lines. In 1976 he decided to branch out on his own and start a new watch company. He headed to Switzerland, the hub of the watch industry, and proceeded to design a unique and innovative watch under the banner of Hublot Watches, that featured a rubber strap, a first in the history of watch making. Three years of meticulous research later, he succeeded in presenting this new Hublot watch at the 1980 Basel Watch Fair to much fanfare and huge commercial success.
In late 2003, Crocco invited Jean Claude Biver to head his design team at Hublot Watches since he was becoming increasingly preoccupied with his many charity works. Biver brought his previous watch making experience at Omega to Hublot Watches and began to create a new flagship collection, the Hublot Big Bang chronograph, which he unveiled in 2005 at Basel to tremendous acclaim. That same year the Hublot Big Bang chronograph won top design awards all over the world, including the “Sports Watch Prize” at the “Watch of the Year” presentation in Japan, the “2005 Design Prize” in the “Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix”, and the ”Best Oversized Watch” in Bahrain’s Editor’s Choice “Watch of the Year” ceremony.
