The art of Movado is the art of time. Since its founding in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim in the village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Movado has achieved a legacy of design innovation, earning more than one hundred patents and two hundred international awards for artistry and innovation in watch design and time technology. Movado, meaning "always in motion" in the international language of Esperanto, is the hallmark of some of the most famous timepieces ever created, including the inimitable Movado Elliptica.

The Movado Elliptica is immediately recognizable by the unique position of the numbers on the dial. Each numeral, aside from the quarter hour markers (which remain in their traditional positions), is arrayed at the top and bottom of the watch face, trailing horizontal lines that meet with the Elliptica's hands to easily indicate the time. The Movado Elliptica's stainless steel case is curved to fit the wrist, and is shaped like a comma when viewed from the side. Chronograph models are also available and are equally distinctive-the chronograph buttons are uniquely positioned at ten, twelve and two o'clock, instead of on the right side of the watch, where they are commonly found.
