Fossil Watch Co. was introduced in 1984 with the operating name of Overseas Products International. Their original focus was producing fashion watches with a distinct retro styling. This specific look has contributed immensely to the popularity of Fossil watches.
In 2001 Fossil Watch Co. acquired Zodiac Watch Co., which was a well known Swiss brand around since 1882, to add a luxury brand to their roster. Their aim to launch a strong Swiss identity led them to buy the Zodiac watch brand and fold it into the Fossil Watch Co. They implemented a complete overhaul of that line to reflect a more modern retro feel of the 1970’s to coincide with the styling of the lower priced Fossil watches.
In 2004 Fossil Watch Co. in order for them to round out their collection of watch brands they acquired the Michelle Watch brand to offer high end luxury watches with distinctive designer flair.
Fossil Watch Co. has been extremely successful with its original namesake brand, and this success has impressed other designers very much. It led them to approach Fossil Watch Co. to create a line of watches under their own brand names. The licensed watch collections that Fossil produces, designs, and distributes include Diesel, Phillipe Stark, Burberry, Adidas, Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Columbia Sportswear, Frank Gehry, Davis Cup, Michael Kors, and Callaway Golf. Fossil Watches also does the manufacturing of the Emporio Armani, and Armani Exchange watch lines.
In addition to their fashion watches, Fossil watch Co. also produces watch collectibles which are based on characters in popular culture or popular movies. These iconic watches celebrate Elvis Presley, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Pokémon, Batman, Snoopy, and Flash.
