Mido Watches


Swiss watchmaker George G. Schaeren founded the luxury watch brand, Mido, in 1918. The name originated from the Spanish word meaning “I measure” — a reference to the central purpose of Mido watches. Though the company originally produced watches for men, it added Mido women’s watches to its collection in the mid-1920s. By 1934, Schaeren made history by launching the Mido automatic watch — the word’s first self-winding watch.


While Swiss watches are known the world over for their precision and reliability, Mido became known as one of Switzerland’s top producers of time-keeping products. At the end of World War II, Mido introduced the first chronograph to resemble a standard watch, with hands extending from the center of the watchface. Thanks in part to this invention, Mido slowly grew into one of the largest producers of chronographs and chronometers in all of Europe.


Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Mido continued to bring innovation to the world of pocket watches and wristwatches. When the company first introduced water-resistant, cork-based watches in the 1970s, the Mido men’s watch became one of the most popular accessories on the market. Today, consumers can still find Mido watches for sale online and in retail stores across the globe.


Mido Watch Collections


In addition to the various innovations that Mido has offered over the years, the company has also chartered new territory in both design and functionality. The Ocean Star collection introduced a line of watches designed specifically for people who spend a great deal of time in and around water. In addition to their modern, functional designs, Ocean Star watches are also water-resistant at depths as low as 600 meters.


The Commander line of Mido watches has been in constant production ever since its creation in 1959. Inspired by the design of the Eiffel Tower, this chic collection features stainless steel watches for both men and women. Like the Commander collection, the Mido Multifort watch line is based on the aesthetics of a modern wonder of architecture: the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A reflection of the bridge’s lasting strength, these watches come with an 80 hour power reserve.


Though not inspired by one monument in particular, the Baroncelli collection is designed to reflect the great architectural feats of the 19th and 20th centuries. These watches come in a wide variety of classic designs featuring either non-numerical indices or Roman Numeral displays.


If you are looking for a feminine design that exudes power and luxury, look no further than the Mido Romantique collection. Featuring stainless steel bracelets with Mother of Pearl dials, these modern wristwatches make a great fashion statement for nearly any occasion. As an added bonus, the watchface is made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.


Finally, the All Dial watch line is designed specifically for those who love the ancient history of Rome. Inspired by the Roman Colosseum, the All Dial collection features round, simple face designs with a modern crown and symmetrical secondary marks.
