Prescription Eyewear FAQ

The essential details for ordering prescription eyewear online.

GETTING STARTED

How do I order prescription glasses on Ashford?

Choose an eligible eyeglass frame and select prescription lenses. During customization, you’ll choose your lens type, enter your prescription and pupillary distance (PD), and select any available lens options. Review your frame, lenses and total before completing checkout.

Can I buy a frame without prescription lenses?

Yes. You can purchase an eyeglass frame without adding prescription lenses and have lenses fitted by your local optician if you prefer.

What is the difference between readers and prescription lenses?

Readers are ready-made magnifying lenses with the same strength in both eyes, available from +0.25 to +3.50. They are designed for people who need help with close-up reading. Prescription lenses are made to your individual prescription and can provide different correction for each eye, including correction for astigmatism when needed.

Are Ashford eyeglass frames authentic?

Yes. Ashford sells 100% authentic designer products, and the eyeglass frames in our collection are genuine products from the brands shown.

YOUR PRESCRIPTION

How do I read my eyeglass prescription?

Your prescription lists values for your right eye (OD) and left eye (OS). SPH, or sphere, is the main lens power, shown as a minus number for nearsightedness or a plus number for farsightedness. CYL, or cylinder, and Axis describe astigmatism correction when prescribed. ADD is the additional reading power used for multifocal correction such as progressive lenses. Enter each value exactly as it appears on your prescription. If a field on your prescription is blank, leave it blank in the form.

What is pupillary distance (PD) and why do I need it?

Pupillary distance is the distance in millimeters between the centers of your pupils. It helps the optical lab position the optical center of each lens correctly for your eyes. Your PD may be included on your prescription; if it is not, ask your eye doctor or optician to measure it for you.

Can I use my contact lens prescription to order glasses?

No. Contact lens and eyeglass prescriptions are not interchangeable because contact lenses sit directly on the eye while eyeglass lenses sit in front of it. Please use a current eyeglass prescription when ordering prescription glasses.

How recent does my prescription need to be?

Use a current, unexpired eyeglass prescription. Check the expiration date shown on your prescription. If it has expired, schedule a new eye exam before ordering.

How do I enter my prescription?

During lens customization, enter the values from your eyeglass prescription exactly as they appear. Pay particular attention to plus and minus signs, and make sure the values for your right eye and left eye are entered in the correct fields.

Can Ashford fill a strong or unusual prescription?

Prescription availability depends on your prescription values, frame and lens selection. If your prescription falls outside the ranges available during customization, contact Ashford Customer Service for assistance before placing your order.

LENSES & OPTIONS

Which lens types can I choose?

Ashford offers single-vision lenses for customers who need correction at one distance and progressive lenses for customers who need distance, intermediate and near correction in one lens. Additional lens options may also be available during customization depending on your frame, prescription and lens selection.

What is included with my prescription lenses?

Scratch-resistant coating is included at no additional charge on custom prescription lenses and readers. Any additional lens options you select, such as blue light filtering, photochromic or polarized lenses, are clearly priced during customization, so you can review your complete total before checkout.

Can I get prescription sunglasses?

Yes. Start with an eligible eyeglass frame, add prescription lenses and choose an available tint, polarized or photochromic option during customization to create prescription sunglasses.

What are progressive lenses?

Progressive lenses combine distance, intermediate and near correction in a single lens with no visible dividing line. They are designed for people who need clear vision at more than one distance. Progressive prescriptions typically include an ADD value. New progressive wearers may need some time to become comfortable moving between the different viewing areas.

FIT & VIRTUAL TRY-ON

How does Virtual Try-On work?

Virtual Try-On lets you see how eligible frames look on your face directly in your browser. Allow camera access, look toward the camera and switch between styles to compare frame shapes and colors before you buy. Virtual Try-On is a helpful way to visualize a frame, but it does not replace the frame measurements listed on the product page.

How do I know whether a frame will fit?

Each product page lists key frame measurements such as lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimeters. If you already own glasses that fit well, compare those measurements with the new frame as a starting point. Your current measurements are often printed on the inside of one of the temple arms.

DELIVERY, RETURNS & CARE

How long does delivery take?

Custom prescription lenses are made to order and are typically delivered within 12 business days. You’ll receive tracking information by email once your order ships.

Where are my prescription lenses made?

Ashford prescription lenses are produced by cerified optical labs in the United States. Each pair is checked for accuracy and quality against the prescription provided before shipment.

Can I return prescription glasses?

Yes. Prescription eyewear may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Because prescription lenses are custom made, a $25 restocking fee applies to each returned frame-and-lens set and is deducted from your refund. Returns must include the frame, the prescription lenses, the original demo lenses and all accessories. Frames that have been adjusted or modified by a third party are not eligible. Contact Ashford Customer Service for a return authorization before sending your order back.

What if my new glasses don't feel right?

It can take some time to adjust to a new prescription, particularly if you are wearing progressive lenses for the first time. If your vision remains uncomfortable, contact Ashford Customer Service with your order number. If you believe the prescription itself may have changed or may not be correct, contact your eye care provider for guidance.

How should I care for my glasses?

Rinse the lenses with lukewarm water and dry them with a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid paper towels, clothing and household cleaners, which can scratch or damage lens coatings. Store your glasses in a protective case when you are not wearing them, and avoid leaving them in hot cars or other areas exposed to excessive heat.
