Revue Thommen Watches

The story of Revue Thommen watches began in 1853, in the small town of Waldenburg, Switzerland. This was when the company known as Société d'Horologerie à Waldenburg was founded. By 1869, Gédéon Thommen became the sole owner and renamed the company after himself. Around this time, Thommen patented several new watch movements.

The company quickly grew throughout the latter half of the 19th century, producing upwards of 13,000 watches per year. Though Gédéon Thommen died unexpectedly, his son took over the company and helped keep the Thommen family business alive. The younger Alphonse Thommen expanded the company’s line of products to include aviation instruments in the mid-20th century. During this same period, GMT and Automatic watch technology entered the market, and Alphonse was quick to implement these new inventions into the company’s offerings.

In 1950, the company invented the new GT82 movement. This invention was soon followed by the GT44, GT54, GT56, GT12, and GT14 movement ranges. In 1987, the company officially changed its name to “Revue Thommen,” rebranding itself as one of the world’s foremost watchmakers and manufacturers of aviation parts. Though the company experienced a brief halt to production in the mid-2000s, it resumed standard operations and established the GTWAG trademark to further market the brand. Today, you can find Revue Thommen watches for sale online and in locations in dozens of countries around the world.

Revue Thommen Watch Collections

Revue Thommen is primarily known for its strong, durable designs that are backed up by some of the best Swiss movements in existence. The Revue Thommen Airspeed and Airspeed XL both offer large, busy watch faces, thick casings, and tons of extra features. Though each product line differs slightly in its precise designs, most Airspeed watches include GMT, chronograph, and tachymeter functionality.

While the Aviator product line offers similar functionality to the Airspeed design, it has a simpler interface. Most of the numbers are replaced with markers, while the simple black and white color contrast make the Aviator a breeze to read and use on the go.

If you like to spend your time in or around water, then the Diver is the perfect Revue Thommen watch for you. With a strong stainless-steel case and up to 50 meters of water resistance, the Diver product line offers watches that can withstand the elements and stay functional for years to come.

If you’re looking for more basic timekeeping functionality, the Heritage and Pilot designs are both great choices. Heritage watches are distinctive for their minimalist watch faces and striking color contrasts, while the Pilot watches feature large numbers for optimum readability.
